AccelBio, your partner in biotechnology translation
AccelBio is a private, non-profit association recognized by the Portuguese Foundation of Science and Technology as a Collaborative Laboratory (CoLAB). Our mission is to capitalize on innovative research assets in academia and startups and leverage them into new biological targets, platforms, and new drug candidates until they are ready to be invested.
AccelBio complements the existing knowledge of academic research groups and startups with its capabilities to develop and support drug discovery projects following quality standards inspired by industry best practices and market knowledge. The AccelBio team uses a translational strategy to support drug development projects, with a special focus on pre-clinical phases of target validation and proofs of concept. This support is provided by an outstanding team of translational researchers and staff scientists with experience across both academia and industry frameworks. Furthermore, AccelBio develops in-house platforms and makes them available to partners to accelerate drug discovery projects. Some examples include our computer-aided drug discovery platform and our organoids platform, with capabilities to perform disease modeling and high throughput toxicology and efficacy studies. Through this integrated approach, AccelBio de-risks drug discovery assets until they are ready to be out licensed to industry or to serve as the foundation of new spin-off companies.
