In Vitro Diagnostic Roadmap in Portugal

The in-vitro diagnostics industry is a vibrant industrial sector within the wider medical technology domain, naturally driven by innovation where start-ups play an important role and create value-added specialist jobs. Like any other medical technology, it is a highly regulated sector, but where development cycles and investment needs are orders of magnitude smaller than, for example, in the pharmaceutical industry.

Portugal, although it has a competitive research in Life Sciences, has not been able to build an innovative industrial ecosystem.

In this document, P-BIO proposes the establishment of an in vitro diagnostic (IVD) roadmap in Portugal, with a focus on building an industrial sector strongly based on innovation.

This roadmap is the application of the vision proposed by P-BIO in the “Bio-Health 2030” (2020) strategy to the specific sector of in vitro diagnostics.
