P-BIO is looking for a highly skilled, experienced, motivated and energetic person with excellent interpersonal and management skills to lead the organization in the role of Secretary General.
P-BIO – Portugal’s Biotechnology Industry Organization – is a non-profit association governed by private law that represents the Biotechnology and Life Sciences sector in Portugal. Founded in 1999, P-BIO has been contributing as a key element to the development and support of Biotechnology in Portugal, seeking not only to give visibility to this area, but also to develop a favorable environment for the creation and growth of biotechnology start-ups in Portugal and promote its growth at national and international level.
The Secretary General will serve as the chief executive and strategic leader of P-BIO, responsible for advancing the association’s mission, representing member interests, and overseeing daily operations. The role will be to maintain the development of P-BIO as the leading representative body for the Biotechnology sector in Portugal and ensure that its vision and mission is delivered. The Secretary General will be responsible for an ongoing programme of strategic communications and membership services, the delivery of products and services, the management of national and European funded projects and the development of relationship with international organizations, such as EuropaBio, other biotechnology associations, ICBA and global partners, combining policy advocacy, stakeholder engagement, organizational leadership, project management, industry development, and international representation.
The Secretary General will lead P-BIO’s team and work closely with the Board of Directors, member companies, research institutions, government agencies, investors, and international partners to strengthen the Portuguese biotechnology and bioindustry ecosystem.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
• Master’s degree or higher in biotechnology, life sciences, business administration, or a related field.
• A PhD or advanced scientific background may be preferred.
Professional Experience
• Significant leadership experience in biotechnology, life sciences, healthcare, bioeconomy,
bioindustry, trade associations, public affairs, or innovation ecosystems;
• Relevant knowledge and awareness of the biotechnology / bioindustry sector in Portugal;
• Experience working with government agencies, regulators, and industry stakeholders;
• Proven experience in strategic planning, organizational leadership, and stakeholder management;
• Experience in fundraising, partnerships, and project management is highly desirable.
Further information
• Location: hybrid, based in Oeiras or Cantanhede;
• The position entails some business travel, mainly within Portugal but also abroad;
• Salary will be based upon experience and working arrangements;
• The call will remain open until June 19th 2026.
