We are currently seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual for the role of Bioprocess Engineer in our dynamic team. The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in modeling, optimizing and scaling up bioprocesses, ensuring the efficient production of valuable compounds using microorganisms. What’s the Job?

As a Bioprocess Engineer at SilicoLife, you will be deeply involved in both theoretical and lab work:

  1. Design and Optimize Bioprocesses: Develop new fermentation processes, including preparation of cell banks, generating inocula, run fermentation trials, from mL scale trials in shake-flasks to trials in fully controlled bioreactors (benchscale). Work will also require to prepare cultivation media and process samples.  Apply your expertise to improve fermentation, downstream processing, and recovery processes.
  2. Scale-Up Production: Lead efforts to scale up fermentation and bioprocessing activities from the laboratory to pilot and production scales together with 3rd parties/partners. Ensure efficient and cost-effective production processes.
  3. Bioreactor Operation: Oversee the operation and maintenance of bioreactors and other relevant equipment. Monitor and control key process parameters to maximize product yield and quality.
  4. Process Development: Continuously improve bioprocessing techniques and strategies, implementing innovative solutions to enhance productivity, yield, and sustainability.
  5. Data Analysis: Collaborate with our bioanalysis teams to analyze process data, identify trends, and integrate data-driven insights into process optimization. Definition of process milestones and expected TYRs.
  6. Quality Assurance: Maintain high standards of product quality and safety through rigorous quality control and assurance practices.
  7. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including strain engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, and modeling, to achieve project objectives.
  8. Documentation and Reporting: Prepare comprehensive technical documentation for internal and external stakeholders, providing both summary and detailed technical information to support project decision-making.
  9. Stay Current: Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in bioprocessing technologies and methodologies, and apply this knowledge to enhance our processes and products.

Job requirements


  • Degree in relevant field (Ph.D. preferred or Master with industrial experience)
  • Hands-on experience in bioprocess development for small molecules production
  • Strong background in bioprocess design and equipment operation
  • Proficiency in process scale-up and optimization
  • Communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to find creative solutions to new problems as they arise, and to stay abreast of new technologies and methodologies
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to participate in multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal English language skills at a level consistent with professional communications
