On September 19th – 20th, P-BIO (Portugal’s Biotechnology Industry Organization) organized the BIOMEET 2022, the annual meeting of the Biotechnology sector, with the support from Oeiras Valley – Municipality of Oeiras. The event took part of the celebrations of the European Biotech Week 2022.

The event started on September 19th in the morning with the plennary session “Getting the innovation we need – Rethinking the Social Contract Between Biotech and Society in Portugal“, where the Portuguese chapter of the Biotech Social Pact was officially launched, with 14 Portuguese signatories, and reflections on the societal impact of biotechnology were discussed. The session was live streamed in Expresso Newspaper’s social media.

The afternoon session was dedicated to bioinvestment and featured the presentation of biotech start-up Portuguese CEOs that achieved successful exits, followed by two pitch session to present national biotech projects / start-ups with high market potential raising investment.

On September 20th, the session “From I&D to the market: the role of Biotech Clusters” was dedicated to the role of biotech clusters in promoting regional and national economic growth, from research to the market. The French ecosystem was be presented as case study, followed by the presentation of the three major Portuguese biotech clusters and a discussion on the policies that have the greatest impact on the promotion of regional clusters, with a view to the development of biotech start-ups and regional/national economic growth.
